About The Event

This 19th Annual West Branch of the Susquehanna Wild Canoe/Kayak River Race will take place on May 2, 2020.  In 2005, the West Branch of the Susquehanna River was named “River of the Year”.  Seven years later, National Geographic named it one of the “Best Adventure Destinations” in the world.  This will be your chance to paddle the most scenic section of this river.

The river run will start at the Rolling Stone Bridge just outside of Kylertown, Pa at 11 am and finish at the Karthaus Bridge in Karthaus, Pa.  The river will be about 11 miles in length.  This event may change due to water conditions.  

Rules and Regulations: 

1. Open Canoes will be categorized as “Standard” or “Unlimited” based on hull material.

2. Decking for open canoes is limited to 36” bow & stern.

3. “Splash rails” may extend no further than 1 ½ “ (One and one half inches) from hull of the canoe.

     disqualification.

5. Open canoes must be propelled with single bladed paddles.  Bent shafts are permissible in any class.

6. Helmets are encouraged for all racers, mandatory for kayaks.

The “Dice Roll”:

The West Branch of the Susquehanna River Wild Canoe/Kayak participants in any class may opt to join in the Dice Roll.

Roll Dice three times at Registration and two times at awards ceremony.  High and low score will receive plaques.

Door Prizes:

There will be door prizes after everyone gets off the river.  Names will be drawn at the Karthaus Park during the awards ceremony.

Pre-River Run Food & Drinks:

There will be water and snacks available at the start line at Rolling Stone Bridge.

Post-River Run Food & Drinks:

There will be Chicken BBQ dinners available after the race.  You may purchase them at the registration.

Awards Ceremony:

The award ceremony will be held at the Karthaus Park on Market St, in Karthaus.

All participants must sign a waiver.  Waivers will be at registration.

Pre-Registration will be accepted until

April 27, 2020.  The first 10 participants to register before the day of the event will receive a free t-shirt.

Registration will start the day of the race at 8:30 am at the Rolling Stone Bridge.

We will have a shuttle to bring everyone back to the starting line.  It will be leaving the finish line area no later than 10:30 am.  Please try to be registered by 10 am so that you have time to take your vehicle to the finish line and ride the shuttle back to the starting point.
